Question Pushrods Mixed Up!!! Help Quick!!!!

Dissassembled My 400 Partially To Replace Head, Intake, Oil Pan, And Valve Cover Gaskets, And To Clean Out The Funk.
But....when Rotating The Engine On The Stand, I Forgot My Pushrods, And They Fell Out!
Now They Are All Mixed Up, So What Problem Will I Run Into When Reinstalling Them?
Or Does It Really Matter?
The Engine Has 77,000 Miles On It.

Why Does Almost Everyone Say To Keep Them In Order When You Remove Them?
They're All Exactly The Same, Right?

Don't know, I've mixed them up for years with no problems.

Some may have wear patterns set up. I would replace them all if you are going to use the engine for a long period. If you just need to fix it long enough to run for a little while just pop them back in.

I have pulled engines apart where there was almost 1/8" difference in length on some of the pushrods due to wear. They wear in odd shapes even if only by a few thousandths of an inch but then so do the mating surfaces. Putting two odd shapes together is worse than putting one good surface next to a misshapen one.

and to add to Eric's comment new stock pushrods really don't cost that much expecially when you consider maybe replacing lifters, and rockers. I have done it on occasion in an emergancy, or in the case were there was very little mileage on the engine.
