nascar cars do not resemble their stock counterparts in any way. every car in nascar looks exactly the same and have the same aerodynamic downforce as every other car. If a manufacturer did find a more aerodynamic car to use, after 2 races nascar would make them get a bigger wing on the back and slow it down to the rest of the field. nascar is a complete joke anymore, I want stock car racing back.

They should bring the old stock car races back where they were the same car as the factory except for the weight reduction. Plus it can help car companys promote their products like the old days.

Yes, but think about it. How many drivers would still be alive at the end of the first season like that. How cars are built and how race cars are built are 2 different worlds.
One thing I would like to see is if they were to use fuel injection instead of carbs. Then start making limitations on milage. How long do you think it would be before they would find better ways to provide power and save fule in our cars?
With them stuck on carbs, there is no reason for the manufacturers or racing teams to do any kind of developement like that.

they are not the exact same. the roofs, hoods and deck lids are differnt. they might say they are the same but i do not believe it. france family owns 5 GM dealerships and nascar, i think that should not be allowed as it is a cinflict of intrest but hey they own nascar and make the rules. nascar has sold out and its like WWE wrestling any more.

A few years ago, Ford toyed witht the idea of using the Mk VIII for NASCAR, but went with the Taurus. Yes, I'm old enough to remember when stock cars were STOCK cars! My favorite driver was Fearless Freddie Lorenzen in that Holman-Moody fastback.

According to Jayski, They'll be using the Fusion next year! The Fusion is shorter than both the 500 and Taurus, and is built on the Mazda6 platform with a Mazda engine.
I'm not too thrilled about Toyota joining NASCAR, and this development has me more concerned! I would rather the car they use be a Ford product from the ground up!

Last I heard, Fred was selling real estate, and living in Elmhurst, Illinois. He was one of my favorites.

whats wrong with a mazda engin in that car?? its not whats going to be used on the track so it dont matter. anyway ford owns mazda so every mazda that you buy the profits go to ford. not like when people buy a toyota and send the profits to japan.

Assuming it is true, does Ford use the 500? It doesn't seem like the right type of car. But then they would have to use something else. Maybe they take the T-bird back to its former self and re-introduce it into the circuit...

If it is that would be the best thing for the company. Those cars are bombs odometer hits 100k kaplooee. They need to stop building junk like that. Bill also needs to fire and hang those responsible for slipping up >>>>Fires,Tires, Bearings etc. If the company is going in a new direction this is a good start.
