89 f150 noise/vibration 2wd

I've had humming/resonance noise in my truck since I bought it in November. I thought it would be the tires since they were pretty bad. I put new tires and wheels on today and still have the noise. It is really loud at 30 and 60 mph and quiets down the rest of the time. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

What are the engine RPMs while in those speeds? I would think maybe engine or transmission mounts. You could also check your u-joints, make sure they are nice and tight. Also check and make sure you don't have any weights missing from your driveshaft. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention I replaced the U-joints 2 weeks ago with no change. I don't have a tach, so I can't tell on the RPMs, but when I shift out of overdrive (auto trans) at 60mph the noise stays the same. Could it be the rear end?

Thanks,
Rick

It could be the rear end. You got new tires but are the rims possibly bent?

If u-joints are good then I would suspect motor/transmission mounts, driveshaft balancing or the rear end. Make sure the rear differential is topped up with fluid. Good luck!

Noise& vibe

You did not mention if it was a extra cab, the reason I say that is I did the same thing, tires, u-joints, carrier bearings, you name it. I ran with the windows up one day and noticed it did not do that, rolled them down and it was there, it was the top was viberating in the wind, I spent about 200.00$ for nothing. Check with windows up and down.

Vibration

Does the noise change when going around curves? Mine did this and it turned out to be the front wheel bearings. They were totally shot and I had to replace them.

It was the wheel bearings.
