Waraunty ?

Is having your rotors resurfaced covred under waraunty?
They are areally bad, but I dont have any vibration problems. Will they still resurface them for free or even replace them w/ the new harder rotors?
Or will I have to shell out some cash.

Champ, If you have brake shudder you can get them rotors replaced up to 36,000 miles. Dont have them resurfaced. Just have them replaced with the new ones.
I barely got mine replaced before my warranty ran out, otherwise I would have had to shell out around $700.

Have the dealer check them out. If they are squealing, they should be able to find the problem. If you don't have a shudder and the rotors aren't grooved bad, what makes you think their bad? It may be the brake pads.

The rotors are grooved. There just is no shudder so thats why im not sure if the new harder rotors will be replaced under waranty. I really dont want to resurface the ones I have now because it will just become grooved again.

I have read other posts where the dealer does replace the rotors with the new style under warranty.

Heck, waste a few hours taking it in to the dealer. If they fix it under warrenty, you win. If they don't it's worth the few hours vs. hundreds of dollars it will cost you to have it done elsewhere. And I do mean elsewhere.

Warranty on the brakes and all parts of the brakes is only 18,000 miles. It is 3/36 on everything else. Now even the cheap Generals are good for 3/36 instead of 1/12. They resurfaced mine first at 13K then they were replaced by the new rotors at 15K. Much better rotors and hardly any brake dust.

Champ, Are you sure you dont have brake shudder??? Try hitting the brakes at around 50 MPH and see if you get a steering wheel shimmy. That is shudder. I am betting that you do get the shimmy with those groved rotors. Just go to the dealer and complain like H---- to the service manager, and dont forget to take that TSB with you so they dont try to snow you. If that doesnt work, go to another dealer and another until they hear you. You will get them, but you will have to pay for the new pads.
Let us know what happens.

if they are squeaking all the time sounds like something is not completely releasing. Are the rotors getting HOT after a short drive?

The pads are a maintenance item. The rotors should be a warranty item unless the truck is abused. I'd raise a stink if you have maintained it properly and haven't done something stupid to cause the rotors to warp.

This sounds like they are glazed. I have the dealer call in a factory rep to find out what is going on. Should be a warranty item. If they have a bad batch of brake pads they ought to want to find out which ones and do this under a recall; possibly a secret recall. The alternative is to replace them yourself. It is usually a simple job and the pads are not terribly expensive but usually the factory pads are the better choice. This needs to be addressed by Ford somehow.

Well this is what they told me.
The pads need to be replaced. THey are not metal to metal yet, but they do need replacing.
The passenger side rear rotor is completely grooved.
They told me to replace all the pads and resurface the rotors it will run me $450-$500.
Now I can understand paying for the pads and such, but shouldnt the rotors be under waranty?

I've had a similar problem and have posted my issues before. I am now coming up on a year of ownership of my 04 F150 and nearly 20K miles. The front rotors have been replaced twice, resurfaced twice, the rear rotors have been resurfaced twice, the pads have been replaced once on the front, and have been machined twice (front and back). Service manager, general manager, and Ford engineers have not been able to provide any answers. They refuse to do anymore work because they have run out of answers and possible solutions. They refuse to keep paying for new rotors and pads because they feel that the same thing will continue to occur. I've pretty much given up on them and decided to keep the windows and the radio up. Wasn't much of an issue during the winter, but now that spring is rolling around, I'll guess I'll have to have the pads and rotors replaced on all four wheels. It's going to be money out of my pocket, but i'm tired of taking off work and driving loaners while Ford techs and engineers can't come up with a long term solution. I've found some Hawk HPS performance brake pads and Power Slot Rotors from Moss Motors, but I don't know much about them. Any guesses on whether or not the dealer will put on those parts if I buy them? On second thought, maybe I don't want them touching my truck again...

I would contact your state attorney general office and see if the lemon law might apply. Good luck....
