hey guys, my girlfriend just bought her own 97 expy, and we are very happ with it, just the leather seats need to be cleaned. the previous owner had a kid and they arejust dirty, you know. any suggestions on a good cleaner to use to make these babies shine again and be CLEAN. thanks
About every 3-4 months I have to scrub mine with a 70/30 (water to solution) solution of Castrol Super Clean. I use a a couple of semi-soft bristle brushes and follow up my cleaning with a good wipe down with clean water and a good leather conditioner.
My kids hate it because I do not let them ride in it for 3 days afterwards.
I carry my dogs in my 2000 EXPY. I use gylcerin saddle soap on a damp sponge. First I scrub the seat with the saddle soap and wipe dry with a clean cloth. I do this twice on each seat. I let this dry and then follow with Lexol or Meguire's leather conditioner. I do this about once a month and they are still like new. If you scrub with harsher products or srub too hard you may take some of the color out. The saddle soap is very mild, foams out the dirt and nourishes the leather. You can get a bar of it at any horse supply outlet.
I'd be careful with using a degreaser like simple green or castrol on the leather, that is a little harsh for it. I used Castrol(50/50) on my mother's Honda accord leather and the rag was the same color as the seats when i was done. I would use it here and there on a stubborn spots, but not everywhere. I use the lexol soap and a rag, brush on stubborn dirty spots, wipe it all down and immediately apply the lexol moisturizer/conditioner.... Seats are in great shape. I dont have kids though
