Whats the possibilities of starting
Going to go over this weekend and try and start the 89 F250 4x4 with the 300 6Cyl w/snowplow after sitting for 2 years. I don't know much about the truck but I am purchasing this truck from work for $350, our fleet mechanic says it ran good but needed a clutch.Truck has 96,000 original miles but the fenders are rusted out around the wheel wells.
I think my question is what do think it's going to take to get this truck running after sitting this long (2 years) besides sea foam in the gas tank and a new battery. Right before it was parked/retired it had complete tuneup/oil change just by looking at the service records and the new plugs, plug wires, dist. cap, and the oil. Oil looks to be clean. Just want to get it home which is only 4 miles.

Well the fleet mechanic was right after all, it does need a clutch. I went down today to see what the truck was going to do after 2 years of sitting. Brought a new battery, 2 five gallon cans of new gas, new fuses, and a bottle of sea foam. Put in the sea foam and then the gas, installed the battery, put in all new fuses since somebody had taken all of them out for some reason, and had to trick the neutral safety switch so it would think it was in neutral. Waited about an hour for the sea foam to work a little and gave ol 300 straight 6 cyl. a crank of the starter. Took about 30 seconds of cranking and she spit back up to life, about 5 seconds of spitting/coughing and the ol girl is ready to run nice and smooth. But I still have to replace the clutch, it would only move about 30 feet before you could smell the clutch starting to burn.
What can I say for ($350) about a 89 4x4 F-250 with 96,000 and snowplow

I paid $800 for my 89 F-250 4x4. It has 133k miles and runs decent, I put new ball joints on the passanger side (drivers side is done), the 351 runs great, but its got a couple issues....fixable ones. I just put a new clutch, slave cylinder, and different transmission in it. I'm happy with it.

Justin,
My question is since I haven't had a Ford in a long time. (Yes, I know I have been driving my semi/restored 63 Chevy truck until recently) Is what tranny I have? I have been looking at the clutch kits in LMC but they list a 4 speed and a 5 speed for this year, my truck has a manual with the numbers on the shifter as 1,2,3,4,OD,R . Do they consider this a 4 speed or a 5 speed in their catalog? I would consider this a 4 speed with OD, but that's not in the book.
