I have a parking brake problem that I don't think is part of the recall. When I pused in the parking brake the pedal went straight to the floor and I heard a bang. When Ilooked under the truck I could see the brake cable, luckily it was not broken. I looked at the frame and saw a metal piece, not sure what to call it. The metal piece has three keyhole like holes, 1 you would attach the parking brake cable to, 2 other holes hold the other (and I assume this) brake cables for the rear. The metal piece is broken where the parking cable goes, it snapped. The main questions that I have are. What is the piece called, it was not welded to the frame, and if all three cables are not in the metal piece will my brakes fail ?
brakes won't fail, however, as you noticed your e-brake no longer works. The way an e-brake works is... as you depress the e-brake pedal it mechanically tightens the rear brakes with the cable. i'm not sure the name of the piece, sorry. i'm sure someone can fill that bit of information in.
got home and looked in my manual. the piece i think you need is called: parking brake cable equalizer, part number 2A602. i still advise going to a dealer should be your next step. and kjg is correct this is just for the emergency backup mechanical system. i would try to find why it broke. the rear cables may be rusted.
