Question Auto trans temp

Need to know 'normal' outlet and inlet (to trans cooler - from trans cooler) transmission fluid temperatures. Also what is considered a 'to high' temp. Thanks

Normal running would be around 120F, overheating and the TOT setting a code would be at 270F.

The "to cooler" line is fresh out of the torque convertor so it is artificially high. The spec for maximum is somewhere around 300°. Measuring the pan oil is better. Pay attention above 200°, don't exceed 250°. Though most of the time a properly running E4OD will not exceed 180° so long as you are moving at a good clip, and not pulling too hard. It is important to install the gauge before you have problems so you have a base line and know what is normal.

Thanks guys. Mine in the pan runs around 130/140. Have several coolers (bought at a liqidation sale) and am trying to see whitch is the best, by the temperature drop from inlet- outlet.

You cannot test a cooler that way! Beware! Because if the cooler is highly restrictive it will show a great temperature drop. And the circuit that the cooler return goes to is the lube circuit.

The proof of a good cooler is in how cool it keeps the whole transmission. If the transmission is already no hotter than 140 then Stop Right There. Nothing more is necessary.
