Today is Washington's birthday and some people think that he was an only child.

Fact is...No president of the US was an only child. George Washington had an elder half-brother, Lawrence, from whom he received much of his schooling. Lawrence also accompanied him to the West Indies, Washington's first and only excursion outside of the United States.

did you also know they were not only required to not blow the horn but when meeting a horse from the other direction they were supposed to pull over, and stop the engine so as not to scare the horse, and in some town (and still on the books in atleast one MA town) you are required to tie up your motor car to the hitching rings provided.

Bering Land Bridge Theory

Ok K.T. here is the Bering Land Bridge Theory in a nutshell...

During the last Ice Age a lot of the northern hemisphere was covered in ice. What basically happened was that the natives of the time who lived in what is now modern day China moved north as the glaciers melted and crossed over a spit of land connecting Russia with Alaska. As the glaciers continued to melt, they followed the animals south and settled in various parts of the U.S. becoming eventually our "Native Americans". At the same time the melting of the glaciers and the end of the Ice Age also raised the level of the ocean and the spit of land they crossed was swallowed up by what is now the Bering Sea.

a better explanation can be seen at

More history/trivia: Thomas Jefferson popularized the wearing of corduroy pants. I learned that in my junior year of high school from my English teacher - my favorite teacher ever, and one of the best men I ever knew.

Ok,I can buy the bridge theory it makes sense,in fact I read somewhere that in the roarin 20`s (I think) there was a race around the world and that many car manufacturers entered the race. They raced across the U.S. and when they got to the west coast, the cars were shipped up to Alaska where they were going to continue the race west across the ice.But then they realized it was too risky and the cars weighed too much,so they had the cars shipped over. And as far as tieing the car up to the hitching post,I can buy that one too.I saw family photo albums from my ex-wife`s side of the family, there were pictures from where her mom, grandmother, and great grandmother learned to drive, and sure enough,in every pic, they were draggin a hitchin post!Which kind of explains why hitchin posts are extinct!

My brother used to teach physics to supposedly "gifted" high school students.
He: "Did you ever notice that when you were driving down the road on a hot day that it looked like there was water on the road, but it really wasn't there"?
They: "Yeah".
He: "Did you ever wonder why"?
They: "No".

New Jersey Facts

"Highlands, New Jersey has the highest elevation along the entire eastern seaboard, from Maine to <A class=contextmatch href="https://www.ford-trucks.com/cgi-bin/banner/redirect.cgi/?REGION=BBS&CAMPAIGN=&ACCOUNT=bartowford&BANNER=ba rtowford1">Florida"

Not sure what this means. The highest point in the Eastern United States is in North Carolina (Mt. Mitchell at 6,684 feet), which borders on the Atlantic Ocean.

See, I did read it all! Brady

alright, alright....I told you is was a cut and paste job. No idea of the age of it though.

WVBrady...maybe with exception to the Appalachians? I don't know what constitutes it as a part of the mountain range or just a nearby hill, so I don't know how they can say .....highlands EXCEPT for the Appalachians. You know what I mean?

Monsterbaby...like I said, no idea on the age of this piece, but I'm not gonna lie and say that I knew Wisc and Mass grew a lot of Cranberries. Interesting though...

The learning never stops!

Just a quick note here concerning the Land Bridge from Russia to alaska. The University of Okla. (and who could be more knowledgeable about native americans than them) has confirmed a genetic link between the Mongols of the Russian Steps and the supposed American Indians. So, if the Mongolians came here thousands of years ago, who did they overpower to take possesion of the America's? What is the differance between the Europeans taking this land from the Mongolians and the Mongolians takikng it from whoever had it befor them? And who will someday take it from the Europeans who now dominate American Society?
