I know it has been on here before and I tried a search but it isn't working. Does anyone know which fuse it is that disables the AWD? There was just a customer in our store and he said he took his out and gets better gas milage and it even handles better. He thought it was the "J" fuse but wasn't sure while he was here. He was in the process of hooking up a switch so he didn't have to pull the fuse all the time. If anyone knows, would you please let me know, Thanks,, Brian
Happycamper116, I have seen this as well. I did a search for fuse 104 and this is what I found:
My 2000 was fuse 104 under the hood. I pulled it and I am 2-wheeling. Going to wire a switch to it w/ 30A maxi-fuse in line so I can toggle between 2HI and A4WD. Then, when my new switch is "ON", I can use the factory selector switch to go from A4WD to 4H and 4L.
Does anyone see any potential damage to any of the A4WD parts that are rendered useless during my home-made 2HI mode?
Dave, to answer your question about a light that shows when the A4WD is engaged, you could probaby rig a bulb to that fuse that would light up when a current went thru the fuse. I am not sure what sort of voltage/current goes thru there, so you'd have to make sure the bulb lights up instead of exploding when it turns "on".

I think there is more to than you think. I believe that The ones with the 2wd position have vacuume lines that run to some sort of lock out for the front axles. If you don't uncouple the front axles everything will still turn. I ran all summer with the front driveshaft out and saw no performance gain or gas milage gain.
