Yes, and so is rust on the bottom of the tailgate due to water coming in through the seal against the tailgate window (I'm sure it's cracked and rotted, unless replaced). This may eventually lead to tailgate window problems later too, like lowering the window because of part corrossion and loose wire connections. Also, what you got...

302? 351?
transmission?
4x4?
Any mods on it?

I have an 88 302EFI 4x4 with the C6 transmission...bone stock. The trans. has over 210,000 miles on it and hasn't slipped once. The engine commonly has idle problems, and all of them have been addressed in here in one way or another.

There are a lot of threads about what to look out for in Broncos, just give it a search. If treated right, she should last you a good amount of time, and prove to be a blast. I had her up in Philly for awhile, and she used to be best at blasting through snow drifts after getting plowed in.

Lastly, check out the New Jersey forum. There are a lot of guys there from SJ (like myself) and I believe there is a meet scheduled for the middle of next month, have to check though. Either way, I promise this is the best place to go to if you have any questions. The guys in here have a TON of knowledge, with a few in particular being absolute wizzes. It's how I ended up here a while back. Good luck with her.

Well, if it a 3speed then your tranny is a c-6. If has a O/D on the column then it is an AOD. If the O/D is eletric then it is an E4OD. Like Jdmorg said, the rust is very common on Broncos. Also, if you have auto-locking hubs then can pose a problem sometimes. I am pretty sure that year has a BW 1356 T-case. They are good but if it is electronic it can fail when you need it most. There are many other little things to watch out for but if you keep it regularly maintained you should have yourself a good truck!
