Sway bar dissconnects

How much does dissconnecting your sway bar actually do for you offroad, What all is involved in dissconnecting it. I always hear about gettin extra flex by dissconnecting it. Is it worth it?

I don't know what you mean by more flex but you would gain more wheel travel if you disconnected the sway bar as the sway bar can only twist so far. If you remove it...the truck will have more body roll on the highway when cornering. The ride will soften somewhat too.
I think all you need to do is just unbolt everything and remove it. Just don't disconnect the end links....do that and you may be asking for problems.
Someone will correct me I'm sure.

There are those quick dissconnects for the swaybar, is this more for convience or does it take a while to get the swaybar dissconnected? By the way flex=wheel travel in my book.

I'm not familiar with the quick disconnects. I assume the sway bar stays on and justs stays in position but just disconnected? If you can...post me a link so I can see what you're talking about please.

It doesn’t so much give you more wheel travel as it dose more articulation. The purpose of the sway bar (aka anti roll bar) is to stiffen up the body by not allowing either side to travel up or down independently too much. By disconnecting the links each wheel will be able to travel it’s full length independently of each other. Ie one wheel could be up on a rock and the other in a ditch but both touching the ground getting traction.
I think you can just remove the rods on the end of the sway bar to disconnect it, haven’t really looked at mine though. But theres no way I would ride down the road with it unhooked. You’d feel like it was gonna roll over at the slightest curve.

I bet if you asked in the Off Road forum which is a ways further down on the main forum page you'll get lots of opinions. There are some pretty hard core 4x4ers in there.
