I want to put electronic distributor on my 292. hhas anybody done this? How did it work? I have a 64 f100 stepside with 292 and 3spd tranny. I want to keep it somewhat original but i do want to put some new technology on it. Can anybody help me with the answers I seek. Hope so thnx.
Pertronics is a great alternative to replacing you distributor. As long as your not looking for a 10 second truck. Basicly you remove the cap, rotor, and points, place the ring on the shaft, install the pickup, replace the rotor. Hook up the wiring to the coil (you can use the original restance wire if you want but 12v is recommended) and reinstall the cap. It takes about 20 minutes and you will never have to replace or set points again.
Just thought i would clarify the previous post a bit.
For just pure ease of install use the pertronix. as simple as putting in a new set of points without the hassle of looking for the matchbook to set the gap.
Look on Mustang sites as they seem to carry the part cheaper than truck sites. average of ten bux savings. also upgrade to the pertronix coil. your 292 will come to life with just this simple upgrade.
I used Petronix for a couple of years and decided finally to upgrade to MSD. While the petronix was in the truck it ran pretty good but it runs a lot better now. By the way I have a 410 cube FE motor with roughly 10.5 to 1 compression so I thought the MSD would help get all the fuel burned up at each stroke.
I have not used the Pertronix stuff so couldn't give a report. I just put a DurasparkII distributor in with the HEI control module adaptation on my livened up 390. Just started to run the motor last week and so far so good.
