Hello guy's, when braking from higher speeds (highway off ramps or down a hill)
my truck 01 f350 7.3 will vibrate, most notably in the steering column. Brake pads are all newish (10K) vibation does not happen at lower speeds. Any ideas or is this normal on these trucks?
Mopey,
My guess is that your rotors are warped. With the weight of these trucks, plus whatever we tow with them, the rotors aren't strong enough. They eventually heat and warp. My brother has a 04 CC with 45000 miles on it and already had the rotors turned down once. I didn't have a vibration, but a pull. I replaced my rotors with ART rotors - so far so good. Take care.
I had my rotors replaced 35000 miles ago and guess what? I'm replacing them again today. Evidently, the stock rotors are not capable of withstanding the strain of stopping a 3 ton truck. I'm upgrading to Wagner on the advice of my mechanic. We'll see how well that works out
i have had problems with every one of my trucks and suv's with rotors .fredvon4 has made some very interesting posts about the issue that make a lot of sence.. my personal cure has been to find groved not drilled rotors and matched pads . the heat of todays pads causes a lot of problems
bad *** diesel,
My suggestion is ART rotor technology. They are kinda pricy though. Their website, www.appliedrotortechnology.com is very informative. Take a look at them and see what you think. They are slotted, not drilled, and are cryogenically (sp) hardened to eliminate warpage. When I got them, they were so nice I wasn't sure they belonged on a truck...beautiful rotors...
