Stupid question

How do you shut off the auto dome lamp? I lock my truck at night and I gotta look at my truck for 20 seconds to make sure I didn't manually turn on the dome lamp. I want thing to shut off when I shut my door. I figured That I have watched mt truck for 2 hours and 22 miniutes since I have owned it waiting for that light to shut off. ( its an '04 xl 350 4x4 sc)
thanks

On my 05 the center of the light comes on when the door is opened. If you turn on a map light just the outer portion of the light comes on (seperate lights under the same cover). Doesn't really answer your question but will cut down on your time waiting for the light to go out.

Doesn't really matter if you left the dome light switch on or not. We're in the age of computer'ized trucks. Even if you did leave the light on, it will turn off in about ten minutes. (try it) There may be a way to disable it, through some of the key switch procedures, similar to turning off the seat belt warning bell that's in the manual, I dunno. But rest assured, the new rigs are designed with us dummies in mind.. (No offense intended, I'm in that group.)

Did they shut off everytime you watched it??
Usually after 2 hours and 22 minutes of watching something do the same thing with the same results you can safely assume that it will do it every time.

Try removing the bulb, when was the last time you actually needed the bedlight? I never use mine. my neighbor always tells me I left it on, just because I leave the door open a little,I'm not a door slammer, so I took the bulb out.
They don't draw much juice and wouldn't hurt you battery.

It's part of the Autolamp System. In my manual it's on page 56. Look in the index under Lamps.

Following those steps the delay can be adjusted up to 3 minutes. I'm guessing that if you turn off the lights (step 5) immediately after they turn on (step 4), the delay would be 1 or 2 seconds instead of the default 20 seconds.

Maybe you could disable it if you turn the light swithch to OFF before getting out rather then leaving in AUTO.

mine go off as soon as I click the lock button on the remote deal...

... as long as your doors are locked why worry about it? Its going to go off one way or another.

not the headlamps, he means the interior lamps. I have an xl without the auto headlamps or whatever, and it does the same thing. its a courtesy thing so after you get out of your truck its not dark? I guess? It annoys me as well, same thing with my 04 ... i just stopped worrying about it after i realized they turn off even if you leave the door open.

I'm sure you have the remote entry to lock and unlock- Just lock it and they go out as superstroker said his does. The light staying on bothers me too. We all know it's going to go out but, the one time you go and turn the key and nothing happens you will doubt yourself from then on !
