Thumbs up Swap almost complete

I have a 69 Ford Ranger (F-100) that had a 360 and I am putting in my 289 from my totalled 67 Galaxie. I have looked in some of the posts for info and found that some the info did not work for this particular swap so here is what I have found for this one.

The 360 engine towers worked fine with the 289 after I put in 289 truck motor mounts. Lots of posts out there say you need new towers from a 302 so I got some and they were the same as mine. Anyone need some . . .

My transmission swap (was a c-6 now a c-4) is weird.... the second set of holes on the tranny crossmember do not line up so I will have to drill a new set. The new setup was supposed to require needing a longer driveshaft since the c-6 is longer than a c-4 but I actually need mine shortened. I think this is because the tailshaft for the cars was longer than the ones for the trucks?

Pulled the speedo cable from the car and it looks like it will work on the truck (the c6 and c-4 have a different inputs on the tranny for the speedo).

The throttle setup is going to be fun but managable since I have a 4 Barrel Edelbrock carb and manifold.

Tranny kickdown lever has been tossed to the side for now. I can't figure out how to put it on with my carb setup. No big deal since it was not connected on the Galaxie and I would just manually downshift when needed.

I bought a set of MAC headers for a 95 Mustang on ebay and crossed my fingers....they look like they will fit fine without being anywhere near the frame or starter.

Electrical looks like it be fine with only very minor changes.

Good to know this will work so well. The tailshafts are longer on a car than a truck. Good to know that the frame mounts are the same for both motors, I was always under the inpression that they were different between a 302 and a 360. The electrical should be very similar of not the exact same. When I bought my 69 it had no motor, it had ps added and it took a while to figure out the right lower rad hose to use. The first hose I tried was in the way of the fan belt. Little details are a pain sometimes.

Every post I have seen says the 360 mounts are not the same but they are. The only electrical I have to do is change the wires from the truck to the car ones for the alternator. The truck has them all together in a plastic thing instead of seperate. I guess I should have looked at the alternatorss to see if I could swap them before I got rid of the old 360 but it is an easy fix now. I know the hoses are going to be an issue but that seems to be the biggest thing for now so I am happy.

What is the issue with the hoses? The only issue I had was to get the proper bottom rad hose to clear the ps belt. The ps was added before I got the truck and had nothing to go by to let me know about the right hose to clear the belt.

No they are NOT the same! The small-block mounts are an inch shorter than the FE/I6 mounts. If you put a 302 on the FE/I6 stands your engine will be sitting an inch higher. I'd post the URL of a side-by-side comparison picture of the two but it would be censored out. You'd see that not only are the 302 stands an inch shorter, an inch wider and several inches longer, but they're a completely different shape.

The hose issue is that the 289 I have has smaller hoses than the radiator for the 360 so I have to find hoses that have different size ends on each end since the hoses from the 360 or 289 will not fit. Should be an easy fix.

The perches are a different story.....I mounted the engine on the 360 perches and all looked good except the motor sits higher in the front. Since I am not happy with it sitting higher, I am back to square one.....I got a set of perches from a guy that said they were from a 302 but they are identical to the ones on mine so I will send them back and see if he can get ones for an I6 unless someone has a set of 302/I6 to trade for 360's......

You're getting your stands confused. The engine stands for the FE engine (360/390) are the exact same ones used for the I6. It's the 302 engine stands are completely different.

Ok, I think I got it now. The I6 and FE are the same but the 302 are different. Any Idea where to get the 302's?

QUOTE]If you can`t find these hoses then see what a rad shop would charge to change the rad inlet/outlets to the 289 size. Then you will have the stock size for the future. It maybe a little more money but less problems down the road.

You'll just have to start hitting the salvage yards. I don't know of anywhere else to get them. Sorry.

Got some coming from AutoKrafters. I have a hard time getting to the wrecking yards working full time and none open close by on the weekends.
