351w Valve train problems....

I have a 1969 351W with same year windsor heads. The heads have positive stop rocker arm studs with stock rocker arms and pushrods. I bought a Edelbrock Cam with hydraulic flat tappet lifters...which is supposed to be a stock replacement. It is my understanding when you are installing the valvetrain that the rocker arm nut is to be tightened down on the shoulder of the type of rocker arm stud I have. I have done so and cannot seem to get any compression. I beleive the pushrods are too long and are not closing the valves all the way. The engine has been completely rebuilt and is completely assembled and the lifters have not been pumped up..if this makes a difference . I have been looking on the net and reading books and have found some info on adjustment but am very confused on the subject as to what to do. If someone could give me some insite as to what I can do it would be greatly appreciated.

Go to www.compcams.com go to the online catalog. Look at the index and find Pushrod Geometry ...pg 306-307. It may help you. I think you might be right about the pushrods possibly being too long.
