I'm looking to add some hp and fuel economy to my 1991 302. I want a larger diameter pipe with a performance muffler. I don't want noise in the cab, instead I want a nice rumble at the exhaust tip. Any suggestions?
As far as induction I was thininking of a K&N airfilter box. Has anyone used the tornado for better airflow? Is this product worth it? What would you do to this truck as far as induction/exhaust? Any other cheap modifications? What kind of hp and fuel economy increase can I expect? Thanks.
I put a K&N FIPK on my intake, and bought a Magnaflow Stainless 1-into-2 muffler and 2 stainless tips. I had a local exhaust shop install the muffler, their own piping, and exhaust tips. I think it was around $300 labor. Sounds great, not too loud but a nice V8 rumble/growl.
But I can only speak of driving satisfaction, I don't know how many HP or MPG it gave me.
Get a K&N panel filter and if you want cut the bottom of the airbox off, bump the timing to 14* btdc (this may require higher octane fuel), Replace the second cat with a highflow unit and get a MagnafLow SI/DO muffler. I ran a 3" inlet dual 2 1/2" outlet when I was running my Magnaflow and it sounded good and performed great. These changes will get you going in the right direction and shouldn't set you back to much money.
