anyone here have a 2004 or 2005 f150 with the brake pads squealing. I was told by the service dept at my dealership that its normal due to the material from which the pads are made in the newer trucks. Anyone else face this?
Is this normal - no. Does it happen - yes. I have not had this problem with my F150. I had this in my other VW jetta, it had sub-par cheapo brakes on it. Squeeled really bad-turned heads! I would ask your dealer very politely that you would appreciate it if they would check/change/clean your brakes & rotors.
Mine were sqealing and first they turned the rotors...they were warped. That lasted 1000 miles then they were warped again. Then they changed the rotors to a newer part and no squeal or warpage. There is a TSB out for this. They will only fix them for up to 18K miles then they will charge you to do anything on the brakes.
My brakes make a little noise, but nothing crazzy. I have had cars/trucks that were much worse.
I know there are a few company's currently making cross drilled/slotted rotors and hi-performance pads. I will be looking into this in the future because the stock brakes must work very hard to stop a 5800LB vehicle, and they heat up rather quickly. I had the stock rotors shaved at 10,000 miles and I know they will need to be shaved again, or replaced soon.
I don't think they should warp unless abused. These trucks are supposed to have improved brakes and larger rotors to compensate for extra weight?I will try to get my rotors replaced before 18000 mi.Thanks for info.
Ruckus, I never abused mine. I have had brakes last 80K miles on some of my vehicles. Just because they are bigger and better does not mean that Ford didn't outsource the rotors to the lowest bidder. They never felt warped the first time but when the dealer checked it out they were, thus the resurfacing. The new rotors are flawless and they hardly have any brake dust at all now.
If I start having problems, I will not settle for turning/ resurfacing.I will want the new rotors. Thanks to the wisdom that I have gained here that might be possible. Thanks
