Ok, go to "contact info" or something of the sort, and call them toll free and ask. It's that simple. All you need to do is get a locker that fits an 8.8 Ford (your year) truck. Make sure it's a 31 spline. That's it!
It's another Ford site with a sponsor than I got my T-lock from. He can sell you gears or a locker and he has plenty of them. Have you even researched?
I could go to google and do a search and I'll bet I could come up with 10 different places that would carry a locker for you.
Also, there is a thread at the top of this forum called Power Recommendations or something like that. That has about a million sites listed as well.
I have the 2004 heritage also. They do not come with 3.08 gears, that I can see. The most common gear by far is the 3.31. oddly enough my window sticker says 3.31 but the vehicle ID sticker says 3.55. I will have to do more research I guess.
GTRZAN-Try getting under the back of your truck and lookin at the rear differential case. Somewhere around there is a metal tab or somesort that will say your gear size..

Well at this time I would like not to spend a whole lot, Just try it out to see. Even on the 5.8L didnt really go crazy. Would like to see if a muffler,Air cleaner, and other things that arent really pricy. trying to find areas that even have 2005 4.2L add ons are going to be harder to find(maybe). Any Ideas at this time will help. Thanks for your time in this matter. Doug..
Sorry, I'm a bit new to actually working on trucks, I just wanted to know what swapping out my rear differential would entail, how much time and if there were any special tools needed.
If you guys could just give me something basic that'd be awesome. thanks.
Normally, you should post a new thread for this, but I'll give some advice...
Swapping out the rear end is a pretty difficult process, especially, if you've never done it before. There are special tools needed for doing this, and if you do it yourself with normal tools, it will take an entire weekend if you're lucky. I'm curious, are you swapping for different gears, or just getting the same gears or what?
I know off hand you'll need a pinion depth gauge measure thingy, some kind of hammer, a lot of socket heads and a couple different ratchets, screw driver, differential oil, brake cleaner, big jack, jack stands, and probably some other tools.
i am trying to decide if i should do it myself or pay some one also. Anyone every pay to have one install and have a cost for it. for replacing the diff
any one know what the vin reads....like what each number/letter is for
MAC Headers are also IMO the best. They are equal length ceramic coated shorty headers for $300 a set. You can get them at macperformance.com.
If you are going for performance, get a Flowtech Warlock. They are a straight through design and are louder than Flowmasters. For more information on the mufflers just do a search for them on internet.
The rear end depends...you either have a 3.55 rear end or a 3.08 rear end with a 31 spline gear. Mike at Texas Motorsports can hook you up with a set of gears and LSD for a good deal. He is sponsored at v6f160.com.
