Hello,
When I am driving at low speeds and make a left turn I hear a grinding sound in the front left tire area. I have taken the Escape into the dealer but they didn't find any problems. My question is this, has anyone else had any sound issues similar to this, and if so, what did you do to resolve it?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you,
sasquachh
What year and how many miles. Could be CV joints or bearings or brakes or ? A common wear item are the stabilizer links but they make a popping sound, not grinding.
The vehicle is a 2005 XLS Escape.
5,000 miles, but the sound has always been there since I drove it off the lot. The sound also seems to be consistant with the rotation of the tire.
Interesting, I just bought another Escape two weeks ago. 2005 XLS and I've got 1,600 miles w/o any noise. I'd guess the tires but the "grinding" doesn't sound like tires. If you can duplicate the problem at the dealership and other new Escapes on their lot don't make they noise, tell them to figure it out on such a new vehicle. You might want to cut the wheels to the left and crawl underneath and see if anything is rubbing. Could be something loose on one of the brake calipers causing a noise.
I've heard similar light "grinding" from the front left of the vehicle ('03 XLT, 28k) only in the morning for about two blocks at low speeds. The noise does seem to be consistent with the rotation of the tires. It goes away once I reach 30 mph or so, and it only happens from a "cold start". I haven't noticed it leaving work in the afternoon.
Also, my steering column is really squeaky, not sure if there's anything that can be done about that...
My daughter's '05 Escape is not doing this...however my '04 F-250 did, soon after I took delivery. I would have bet large $$$ that the left front bearing was bad. Only happened at slow turning speeds.
I just bought a 2005 Escape and hear the same thing when I make a left turn. Also, I'm hearing a peak in drive train noise between 25 and 30, begins at 20 and lasts up to 50. Along with this, at the 'peak' is a pulsing/rubbing sound, like a bent shaft end rubbing against something. I drove another Escape, equipped the same, and heard it on that one also. Not loud when it's cold but gets louder after warmup. Don't hear the pulsing/rubbing when power is being applied, only when there's just enough power applied to maintain forward motion.
I'm new to the listings, and wonder if any have heard the same about other '05s. (maybe this should have been a new post, don't mean to clutter things up)
