Ok I have been pondering on this for quite some time and I figured I would go ahead and post a topic on it. Ok the 5.0L V8 in the last year that it was produced, only had 215 Hp and about 282 Tq. Why, after about 30 years of production, were the numbers still so low?? Compare it to the Mercades 5.0L, it has 288 Hp. and 325 Tq. I thought the longer that you produce something, the more advances you make in it, like take the 5.4L for example, when it was first introduced in the 1997 F-150 it had about 239 Hp. and 325 Tq. now, about 8 years later it is at 300 Hp and 380 Tq. quite a difference.
I have a 2000 Explorer with the 5.0, and trust me I really love the power, and it has a lot stock, but I feel that it is lagging in the top end. If you take of with it floored it really pulls strong till about 4500-5000 RPM but after that it dosent really do much, just slight speed increases, till it shifts then it's like it takes a breath. What can I do to fix this? How can I get more power out of it?

all these fords now basically have an apple up the A##!!!! they have been choked so badly by emisions. Back in its early days a 302 made 250 horse with a 2 bbl. but also had 9.5:1 comp. same motor in the 80's 8.0:1 comp 160 hp and an air pump BLAAAAH!! open up the exaust ports on a 302 (aftermarket heads) put some compression into it, a good exaust, presto! 300 horse!
It really is all about emissions, even to the tune up specs they back the timing off the reduce a certian emission and cost you 10hp funny thing is when they do that they increase other emissions but that one is ok it's all a big joke, but open the exhaust and a couple of other very easy mods, adn you will surpase 1970s figures with ease.
