Odometer resetting

I have a 1986 F-350 c/c with a 6.9L. The motor blew and now I'm upgrading to a 7.3L (non-powerstroke) and want to reset the odometer to keep better track of mileage for oil changes and other routine maintenance. Rather than substracting from the readings now and figuring how many miles I've put on the new moter. How can I do this or who do I need to call to do this?

Odometer resetting

There are lots of people who would like to know this for the wrong reasons. Plus if I bought your truck, I would like to know the actual miles on the running gear.

Odometer resetting

It is illegal to reset or play with an odometer. Perhaps you've seen this before: When someone tries to mess with one, the numbers never quite line up properly, they will be offset, and this is clearly odometer fraud, weather it was intended as fraud or not. The only way is if you have a brand new motor with papers from the factory, and a new odometer, both installed through Ford or a liscensed mechanic (may not even be able to have a mech do it).

Odometer resetting

Lots of places will reset an odometer. Most require that you sign a statement that you are the owner and that the correct mileage is unknown. You are required by law to place a marker stating the odometer was replaced and the mileage is unknown. You must also indicate on the title/bill of sale that the mileage is unknown. It is your responsibility to make sure the buyer knows this. "he didn't ask" doesn't let you off the hook. Federal crime you know!

Odometer resetting

That might all depend on your area in the country. Here in PA if you buy or sell a car that is over 10 years old they don't even put the mileage on the title unless you ask them to. It will come back otherwise saying odometer reading exempt.
