I was driving arround town today, when I nioticed that my 94 limited 2X4 4.0 was hesitating at takeoff's, and that my CEL was on. so, I took her home, and decided to pull the codes. KOEO code that it returned was 341.
341? not listed in any of my manuals, except as a car only code for "Octane Adjust service pin open"
WTF? I can't find anything about what this code means, or any diagnostic -places to start. no other codes returned at all either.
I do not think the 341 code causes CEL to come on, but it is output during KOEO self test. Code indicates Octane shorting bar (plug) removed from the connector.. This is located on the wiring harness in the general area of the self test connector / blower motor wiring connector. If you find a connector (2leads) that does not have a grey shorting connector plugged into it, this is it. If your vehicle does not ping (or you run high octane fuel), then don't worry about it. I think it is used to advance the timing around 2 degrees in countries where their base fuel octane is higher than the US standard of 87.
Other stored codes could have been present that got wiped out accidentally before you read them.
If you're having trouble with hesitation during takeoff / acceleration, then start looking at the throttle pos sensor. Sometimes they can have dead spots that may not show up on KOEO self test, but should show on Engine running test or by manual voltmeter test of the TPS. Onother posibility is the MAF.
Dialtone
Maybe what you got was 1-1-1 (KOEO test passed), followed by code 41 in continuous memory (HEGO always lean). Code 41 would be consistent with hesitation issues. This could be low fuel pressure, vacuum leak, or MAF problem.
