Slow SOHC?
97 Explorer auto 4WD SOHC 82k miles<o =""></o>
My problem:
When I floor my SOHC, it revs up to only about 3-3.5 thousand RPM. It rarely goes much over 4,000RPM... and if it does, it seems to go quite slow. I just started noticing this, I'm certain a few years ago my Explorer seemed much faster. Any ideas? Transmission related? I had the fluid changed 30k miles ago however, I don’t recall the filter ever being replaced. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.<o =""></o>
Thanks,<o =""></o>

Thanks for the reply. Yes, in neutral it revs well above 4,000rpm. OD on/off doesn’t seem to affect its behavior. Basically, the majority of the time when I floor it nothing really happens…. it picks up speed but fairly slow. Occasionally when i gun it, it does downshift and it indeed reaches 5,000rpm but this is again “occasionally” not very often.
Thanks

I think my transfer case was stuck. The 4wd light would illuminated,
however I could not shift into low. I also heard relays clicking back
and forth from the 4wd selector **** upon startup. It seemed to buck
and felt as if the wheels were locked in corners. I hit the transfer
case with a rubber hammer and it now switches into 4wd/Low/Auto. I can
now hit those higher RPMs and it seems quite faster. Any hints to
repair my transfer case? I could just not switch it on BUT wont the
control trac turn it on periodically?
Thanks,
