The bell housing is seperate from most of the trannies (except the ZF i believe) in the fords. I think the windsor bell housing is the same as the small blocks, but the 351 cleveland and modified (milford or whatever you wanna call it) is a big block pattern. Someone correct me if I got it backwards.
Other tansmissions they used were the BW T-18 (tough), TOD (not so hot), Clark (no experience), and SROD.
I don't think you can put on a NV without an adapter from advanced, or Novak.
I recently swapped in a BW T-19, for my old "granny" BW T-18. It was a dead on, straight up swap. Exactly the same dimensions as the ''18", so NO driveshaft cutting.
The T-19 is a fully synchro'd HD 4-spd., found in '74 - '88 3/4 ton & up trucks. The diesel gearset (4.01 -1st) gives me a "car like" 1st gear (& did I mention that 1st gear is SYNCHRO'D-? ). I can still pull stumps in 4-LOW.
Mine came out of an '87 F250 6.8 Diesel.
There are also two other T-19 gearset options, from behind gas engines. The same "granny" - 6.39, and an "in between" 5.11 .
I still almost wet my pants when I start out in first and roll to 20+ MPH before having to shift. It IS a bit hard to downshift above 10 MPH, without really gunning it .
