does anyone know what FORD would charge to upgrade my stereo?
i'm talkin' a FULL upgrade; subwoofer, speakers and alike. i wonder if ford would
buy back my existing system? i'd appreciate any thoughts on this.
I hate to tell you this, but i think your sol. And if they do a full upgrade they'll probably charge you an arm and a leg for the sub, HU, and speakers. It's cheaper to do your own install. Buy yourself a good HU, speakers, amps, and subs maybe for about $1000 to $1500. It'll sound a hell lot better than the stock stuff. First thing i did to my truck was changing the HU to a Alpine, replaced all the door speaker, and added a sub. The stock ford HU are junks IMO especially with the CD either skipping or jamming.
I agree with Night Hooter. The aftermarket is where you want to go. I dont see why Ford should buy your stock system back? I have no complaints about the stock cd player in my FX4. It is just the basic single disc Ford unit, but it sounds quite good for stock.
I doubt that ford would even do it, and even if they did it would likely cost 3x the cost a aftermarket system, that would sound three times as good. Check my gallery. The sub box I bought was under a hundred, as were the component speakers I got off ebay. You can get a decent deck for under $200 and a sub amp for another $200, if not cheaper, depending on the quality that you want. Bottom line is you could have a full system installed for less than $1500. Obviously you could spend thousands more depending on what quality you want.
Not being as rich as some of the posters, I upgraded my factory Cd unit with a Kenwood, (retail 200-250) a Rockbox amp (retail 40) an eight inch woofer (retail 50) four pioneer speakers (retail 125). Since I bought on e-bay, on sale, etc. I didn't pay that much for anything exept the speakers, plus I sold my stock radio and speakers for a total of 100 bucks, on e-bay. My net is somewhere around 200 to upgrade my sound.
The difference between the factory system and my cheap aftermarket is night and day. With my reg cab the 8 inch woofer is overkill, and the amp fits neatly behind the plastic surround below the pop out drink holders.
Frankly, everyone has their own taste in sound systems, for example, my kid brother spends upwards of 4000 on aftermarket sound systems for cars he trades in every two years.
You don't really need to spend alot money to get decent sound. All you have to do is budget how much money you want to spend on your audio, you can always upgrade your existing stereo down the road. I'm sure you can get a decent sound system for probably $500 or less if you buy everything on Ebay is definately cheaper IMO.
