The wild one, was the 351M/4V.
It had ports so big you couldn't really get the most out of them. This was called the "Factory Four Barrel Option", and you could stick your hands right inside of them.
It had four bolt main caps, and the heads and block became rare as hens teeth.
Fortunately, Edelbrock makes amazing heads, and any good machine shop can match aftermarket four bolt caps on most any block.

what?
There are currently only one company making aluminum heads for the Cleveland, Air Flow Dynamics out of Australia. No factory 351M or 400 ever came equipped witha 4 barrel carburetor or the 4V heads. Also, no 351M or 400 block was cast with provisions for a four bolt main. I've seen the 4v heads for the cleveland, and they are big ports, but not big enough to get your hand in there.

I OWNED ONE.
It was a two door - built in 1973.
We can stare at eachother all night long, but that was one of my favorite sets of wheels, several years ago.
It was a '73 Gran Torino....
Since I rebuilt the engine for it with my own hands - I ought to know exactly what it had inside of it.
I had to find another set of heads, because the clown who owned it before me ruined them (over a stupid thing like a temperature sensor, and ignorance!).
I TORQUED those main caps myself, standing in the sun at the auto hobby shop at NAVAL AIR STATION MIRAMAR, before it became a MARINE base.
I KNOW! I WAS STANDING THERE.
And they were cast iron heads from the factory - cost me $150.oo each, and I was lucky to find them.
- Any questions?
Christ, I hate it when I get cranky....

Just FYI. "WORLD PRODUCTS" Motown aftermarket tall deck "small block" cheb. based motor can be had in sizes up to 454 cid. Thats right, 454 small block- street/strip- if you have $$$. $10499.99 will get 600HP/575 torque. Reading it straight out of the latest JEG's catalog.
According to the March 2005 Hot Rod mag. WORLD is making their Man-O'-War Block. It is a "bulletproof 302/351 block" Comes in 8.2 to 9.5 in. deck hts.
Prices start at $2,400.00 Didn't say what the cid's would be. look on page 133. 631-981-1918. worldcastings.com
I'll be happy just to get my 7.3 IDI (444cid) running again. That should count as a big block. Weighs over 900 lbs.

If thats true then my wimpy 351M is a big block, it has a 10.3" deck height.
Greywolf, you had a 4V 351C, the 351M didn't even come out until 1975. I'm not gonna argue, I'm right!!!
Now, my 400 with the 4V cleveland heads, flat top pistons, Comp 265DEH cam, full roller rockers, 4V intake, blah blah blah, will walk all over any big block.... plus its 125lbs lighter...

They(335 series) all also share the same back assward oiling system and restrictors have to be used to feed the mains first, doesn't matter if it's a C or M or 400.
