Enough flow for a 351?
The truck currently has a universal muffler with a single input and single output on it.
My question is should I…
1) Restore my muffler tailpipe combination back to the single inlet dual outlet (Walker part number 22402) and dual tailpipe configuration (Walker part number 45390 and 45389)
2) Put a single inlet single outlet muffler (Walker part number 22382) with the current 2” tailpipe
3) Install single input single output (same Walker part number 22382 HD muffler) with a custom 3 ½” or 4” single tailpipe.
Three points to consider….
1) Stock setup allows for better gas flow, More Horse Power
2) I do get more torque from having more backpressure with single in single out and 2” tailpipe, but with a 351 torque is not a issue.
3) HD muffler ( single in single out) with big tail pipe looks cool and is more cost effective because you only have to bend one tail pipe.
Just one final note:
I DO NOT want a loud exhaust system. Just something quiet and NORMAL. I have a 351 if I wanted more HP I would buy a 460.
Thank you for all your input.
IMO, bigger pipe, and a Magnaflow muffler will be reasonably quiet and mellow, not too loud, and flow better than any stock system. Outlets dont matter, if there is one pipe going in, having 1, 2, or 10 pipes coming out are not going to make any more power, just make the rear end of your truck look different.
If you are not looking for any noise, or performance, just stick with stock components.
