Thats gotta be the worst feeling, and you know theres nothing you can do about it. Make sure you steal some stuff before you go. Where do you work anyhow?

It isn't fair. One year I was laid off the week before Christmas. That's why I am self employed now. Sorry about your problem. The only thing I can offer is that opens up the opportunity to have an even better job. I don't know what your schedule is but you better start looking right away. Good luck to you.

man that would be terrible to be laid off before christmas, I mean it's bad as is.
But right before christmas, nodding head.. Yea, I need to look pretty fast/hard
for something before it's to late. I would like to be self employee'd but, I'm afraid
to take the leap. At least I already have my own welding trailer, 16' flatbed trailer
shop welder, portable welder, and any tools necessary to run a welding operation.

Me,
Well it's just a small machine/welding shop down here at whitney, tx. It's just owned
by a individual here local. We made a lot of money tho, did a lot of precision work
that kept james hardie, ennis extrusion, vesuvius, and other large manufacturer's
running tho. I bet somebody here has probably heard of james hardie or vesuvius
especially vesuvius there's a bunch of them mainly up north.

I hope dieselstroke will come back here and let us know what happens. Nothing is as bright as our futures, positive thinking makes the future bright.

Know what you mean. Got laid off 12/31/04 after 16 years. That's what happens in a lot of mergers. Still looking for a job.
Also, fortunately, still getting paid until the end of June.
I hope I get something soon, so I can collect 2 pay checks.

I can't say as I know exactly how you feel because I'm not in quite the same boat, but I do feel your pain. I'm sort of temporarily laid off right now as the building project we are working on has ground to halt, in part due to the fact that the engineer we are waiting on suddenly decided to go to Cuba for six weeks, leaving us with nothing to do till he comes back and finishes up. And it would take as long to get another engineer up to speed, so we're pretty much stuck. It's tough to pay the bills when your income suddenly drops to zero! I've been scrambling to do side jobs, but don't have anything steady, and it's knocked the Ranger engine transplant back quite a ways as well. Oh well, it's sorta like an unpaid vacation, I guess! At least I know I'll go back to work sometime! -TD

I too have been given notice that the plant I work at is cutting 30% of its work force. I thought a union shop would be more secure. This business has been around for over 80 years in the same place. Back to the drawing board. And yes this is the best job I have had so far, hopefully only til the next one comes along. Hang in there, sometimes change is good.
