My fiance and I just went and picked up a Dewalt 10" Miter Saw and a Craftsman 8" Bench Top Grinder from sears for my Christmas presents. The bad news is she wants to wrap them and make me wait till Christmas to open them... Oh Well, at least I know I'm getting tools.
I'm going to go get a 1/2" Torque wrench tomorrow.
I was looking at the Husky 1/2' drive 20-250 ft. lb. at Home Depot. It would work for my purposes and runs about $30 cheaper than the comparable Craftsman at Sears. I mainly need it for my flywheel after I replace my rear main seal. Beyond that, it would just be nice to have.
I have been planning on gettin craftsman for awhile. But now i'm kinda scared to with the whole Kmart buying sears thing.
If you're worried, I'd buy them now, before they start making them junky. Remains to be seen what's going to happen to their quality in the future. Hopefully they'll realize how much people like their tools and won't start to cut corners.

Yeah Ha Ha Ha....you'll find out what she wants done Dec 26th....you got blind sided by thinking it was for "YOU"...
Or just a gift certificate to Sears would do fine, so you can pick them out yourself.
I may get a Craftsman, GotLift, but not sure yet... need to do a little research first
I just picked up the Husky 1/2" drive. I almost got the 3/8" 100ft. lb. but the 1/2" drive 250ft.lb. was only 12 cents higher. What' up with that?
I looked at the Crafstman but it was $99 and I don't like the setting display. It's like looking through a bubble. I'm sure it works well though. I've heard pretty good things about Husky and it has a lifetime warranty.
I read the thing about Sears buying KMart. It said each store was going to keep its popular brands, so maybe not much chance of picking up Craftsman tools at KMart. Also, the group will be called Sears Holding Corp. and Sears, from what I understand, calls the shots. Hopefully they'll keep their biggest seller untouched.
Which reminds me: there's a huge clear-out-the-service-center sale this Sunday (I deliver for Sears) and it's 20% off the markdown prices on all the tools etc. Early Xmas, if the wife will let me "hold" the Sears card for a couple hours...!

I think it's already happening. I borrowed a 3/4" drive Craftsman ratchet and 1-1/8" socket today from a contractor who has a shop where I work, they both had "Taiwan" stamped on them. Craftsman made in Taiwan? What's the world coming to? -TD
They were fakes, possibly. All genuine Craftsman tools are made in America, and have "Forged in the USA" or "USA" (on the newer ones) stamped on them.
I just bought a 140 piece socket and wrench set yesterday - Craftsman, from Sears: $150. What a steal. It came with 10-12 standard length and deep sockets in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drive, as well as each respective ratchet, and 6 or 7 each of metric/SAE open/box end wrenches. I also picked up a 6-pack of pliers (which works out to about 50% off buying each of them individually), and a few other little sets.
Buying Craftsman tools in sets is the only way to go - I was out the door with a TON of new tools for about $320 - had I bought everything in small sets or individually, the bill would've been well over $600. Not to mention Sears had a nice sale yesterday, so half the stuff I got was on sale. I feel good!
