So at 18K miles my 04 f-250 started to read full all of the time until i was running fumes, in which case it would drop to empty and almost get me stranded with every tank. So i took it to the dealership to have it looked at ( sub-par customer service at my dealership by the way ), so they looked at it for almost 2 hours and decided i need a new fuel pump. Of course it was still under warranty so they popped it in there and then it was fine. Now almost 3 months and 2000k later the truck is starting to develop the same problem. Im wondering if anyone has had this happen to their SD and what i might be able to do to get a permanant fix, assuming the new fuel pump wasnt just a dud. Thanks very much
My gauge always read screwy from new, but only sometimes. Once it started doing it repeatedly I took it in. For some strange reason they decided it was the dash cluster, so they replaced that. The very next fillup, the needle dropped to E just like it had been doing. I took it back and they replaced the sender in the tank and it's been perfect ever since. (They replaced the *pump* on yours?!?!)
Sending unit is a known problem. I had the opposite happen. I would fill up and it would take a week to get to full. When I took it in the dealership(Biggest SD dealer in the area) stated they had quite a few with issues like this.
