Throttle Problems

I have an 81 ford with a 302. Its got a cam with a 504 lift and a split duration, the whole motor has been rebuilt, and it has late modle 302 heads for better flow, a polished high rise edelbrock intake, and a holley 600 carb and yes i have headers and flows. It is all less than a year old. For some reason this morning on my way to school, i went to pass a car and when i got around them i let of and the truck took off so i laid on the brake and it finally let loose and then just before i parked i accelerated and let off and it went almost to the floor. Does this mean that its dirty and just sticking or that it could be in the cable or what.

Thanks
Aaron

Do you have a throttle return spring installed? You need a spring to pull the throttle closed. It will usually connect to the throttle cable bracket and then to the bottom of the throttle linkage. This should get rid of your problem.

Try revving the engine a bit with your foot on the brake and it in gear. You might have a bad motor mount that is allowing the engine to move too much. Had it happen myself.

Move the truck to an open area to check it.

Try some carb cleaner on the linkage. Couldn't hurt.
