Bad injectors

My cousin has a 2000 F250 with 130k on it. He has had a small oil leak for a couple of months and noticed last time that he changed his oil that he had more than 15qts. Could it be possible that his injectors are leaking diesel into the oil? I thought it could be anti freeze but he says he has yet to add any to it. Thanks in advance.

Obviously the fluid is coming from somewhere? Same basic color or did you notice a color change? Had a buddy that had his injector fail and he started having an oil consumption problem had to add oil. But is suppose if the injector is not firing properly you might gain by having unburnt fuel added to oil causing the gain. Do you have a ening dealership nearby? Cummins, or Cat both offer oil analysis they could test the oil for the lubricant that is making the level rise.

Bad injectors cause all sorts of smoking/starting/driveability problems....and since you didn't mention anyting like that, I'm guessing somebody just overfilled it on the last oil change. I've been known to get lazy and just dump the whole four gallons in it.....and I'm 100% positive I'm not the only one.

He says that the truck still runs great and has noticed no real change in the color of the oil or in the smell of it. I figured that if it wasn't antifreeze it could possibly be diesel but that is seeming a bit less likely. I'll go pull a sample for him and take it to the Cat dealer down the road. Hopefully it's just a case of overfilling and nothing serious. Thanks for the help.
