Coil Problems

My coil keeps going out! Is there something that would make it go bad. This is the 4th one that has gone out. I first thought it was bad after market parts. but am starting to wonder.

Yes, what year is the truck, and what ignition system do you have? Is it all original or has the engine been swapped?

I have a 1979 f250 4x4 351m Automatic. Electronic ignition. Nothing has been done to it. It is pretty much stock. This is the 4th or 5th coil in the last year. It happens when I am at highway speeds. Does the coil get it elec. from the ignition? If so could that be the problem? This is not the original engine.

I would measure the voltage on the coil + with the engine running. Put the meter on the coil +, and the other lead on the engine block. If you get 12 volts with the engine running, that's too high, and someone has replaced some wiring, and have bypassed the resistor wiring. See what you get, and if you need a resistor, we can figure out how to wire it in.
