I can't find anything on here or in my Chilton's about doing a vacuum check. What is the procedure in doing this? Which lines to tap into...what should it read..etc. Anyone who has done this please advise. Thanks
A very handy place for hooking up my vacuum gauge on my 2.9 is at the rear/top of the engine where the vacuum hose from the trans modulatorwould go if it had an automatic.
Or you can connect to the PCV.
Once it's hooked up just follow the directions that come with the gauge for the different tests.
A Haynes manual does have info on this, i'm surprised your Chiltons doesnt.
If your engines in good shape you should have a steady reading of around 18 inches or better
ok, well next question....my truck has those hard plastic green and red vacuum lines. they are very small in diameter and I see no "tree" near the intake....would it be under the intake?
Ran the test. Consistant 18 inches/hg when at idle. No noticeable needle fluctuations. It jumps down to 0 and up to 27 or so when you get on the throttle and goes right back to 18. I'm assuming this is good ??? Should mean my valves/rings are fine right?
