#1... Started driving my truck on more regular basis and have problem with the the drivers side tail gate chain jumping out and ends up hanging down against the tailgate. Thinking I could put some type of rubber nib on the ends to keep them from bouncing out (?). Anyone have this problem or have a unique suggestion?
#2... Need to replace my brake (stop light) switch. Is this in direct contact with master cylinder brake fluid. Will removing result in loss of fluid and re-bleeding system?
Take the hook and hold it with the pointed end up. Then hook it in from the bottom of the eyelet and rotate it around. THis is the correct way to do it. It can't come out at all.
Yes, the brake light switch is in contact with brake fluid. If you're quick, you can change it without much air getting in, but it's a good idea to bleed the brakes. You can do it right there at the junction block by loosening one of the brake lines and bleeding what air is in there, or at the wheels.
Barry is spot on with his advice. Just be careful when remounting the stop light switch to place the copper gaskets in place. and not to twist the outgoing brake lines from the block.
ALWAYS a good idea anytime you work on the brake ystem to bleed, bleed , bleed the brakes. One time of having to "Fred Flintstone" you truck will be a powerful teacher. Thank God for parking brakes
Clarence,
if Barry's suggestion doesn't work, you can put black electricians tape around the end of the hook. just enough to make it hard to jum[ out of the eye.
If you put the hook in the way I described, the long part of the hook and chain are against the gate. All it can do is slide up and down. It will never pop off the eyelet.
Thanks for responses.... Barry.... your recommmendation for tailgate will definintly work. I figured there was a simple solution I was overlooking... Thanks again
