I saw it the other day.
Never seen a '59 with a hood ornament like that!
Maybe I should bolt one onto mine and increase the value!
RARE, ONE OF A KIND...
NO such thing on a Ford truck until 1974 on the Ranger version of the F-150. I've seen tons of the 49-50 Ford car ornaments on 48-52 trucks. Everyone thinks that if it's on a truck they have, it's stock.

barry, do you mean Ford trucks did not have a hood ornament until 1974? There was an ornament accessory for the 1953-56 trucks which we had a thread about a couple of weeks ago. There was one for sale on ebay that went for over $250.
I've never seen one listed in any of my parts books. I looked in the "Little Red Book" on Ford trucks and there's nothing in there either. I saw the thread on the ornaments, but I'm suspicious if that was legit. Ford always put engineering numbers on all their small castings like that. I'd love to see the underside of that hood ornament. As far as the books go, the only ornaments were the one that you see on the front edge of the hood or sides. THere's a separate area in my parts books that list some accessories, but no hood ornament. Some of the local sales districts did come out with special editions of vehicles with add on stuff that wasn't listed in our books, but I only saw a few in the 70's . I've never seen any reference to any in the 50's. Too bad we couldn't find out who won that and see if they'd be nice enough to see what's on the underside.
I just looked at the one on the 59 truck and it sure looks like an Edsel or even a Olds to me. Only one way to tell is the engineering numbers underneath.
I'd love to see that brochure pic. And a number would be even better! It has my curiosity up. I hate it when I can't find out info on a part. I used to drive the Ford engineers in Dearborn crazy trying to find stuff not in the books!
Barry,
The hood ornament part number is BAAA-18244-A. It was introduced in 1954, and carried until 1956. It first appears in the 1948-54 Chassis Catalog, then the 1948-55, lastly in the 1956 version. It is also illustrated in the 1954, 1955, and 1956 Accessories brochures.
The 1948-56 Chassis Parts Catalog that was revised in 1964 is pretty much useless for any detailed information, since by then many parts were superceded or just not available at all.
You're right about the 48-56 books, I have a set, but don't hardly use them. I use the 48-54 and a 48-55 book. I'll be a son of a gun! it was there all this time. I guess I better open the good eye!
As a kid I used to take the fender ornaments simular to that one. And pretend it was a gun sight and blast all the other cars. Sure wish there had been such a thing as video games back then.
