I've got a '77 F100 two wheel drive shortbed. I really like the look of the short bed, and love the 300 straight six. I've fought to keep the three on the tree alive, and rebuilt the dana 44 rear end with the original 3.07 gears. BUT! I've been drooling over Clifford Performance's website for more than a couple years. I've decided that it would be too difficult and expensive to keep this truck all original. So, now I've gone and done it! I ordered the 4 barrel intake and 2 1/4" dual outlet headers from Clifford. I've got an Edelbrock 500 with vacuum secondaries on the way, too. I think that this will probably be the biggest leap in bolt-on performance that I could possibly take. My old truck doesn't look great, but she should be able to pull that boat out of the water without a second thought after all this is put on!
Really, I'm just excited about it and wanted to tell the world. So, please send your thoughts and comments, and if anyone has ever used the Clifford kit, let me know what YOU thought of it!
Ill tell you, i had a 65' mustang with a 200 6 in it and i put on the offney tripple, the dual outlet header with 2 1/4 inch duals with 40 series flowmasters and an H-pipe right out the rear valance and that thing sounded like an 8 cylinder. i was so afraid it was going to sound like a rice burner but to my delight it did not! Good luck with your project! I would recommend using the 40 series flowmasters with an H-pipe (even if you have to get it custom fabricated at an exaust shop, thats what i did) it will be well worth it. I have a 3" gibson cat back with a high flow cat on mine now and it sound ehhhh??

Oh yeah I know what you're talking about! I installed one of Clifford's 2bbl adapter plates with a 350 Holley 2bbl carb, and a set of EFI manifolds on my 84 F150 4wd. I love it, I have way better mileage and power! The 2bbl gave it a lot more torque on the bottom side, and much better throttle response! The split manifolds gave me greatly improved acceleration. I can't believe how well Ford inline sixes respond to these bolt on goodies, everything I have done has made a difference.
Ok, so I went by SECO today and opted for the Holley 390. After reading tons about the CFM calculation, etc, etc, I figured it'd be a good choice. Also, the buddy that's helping me put this all together and make it work is great with Holleys. Still waiting for that intake and header! (impatiently, I might add...)
from what i've read since i've been on this site, the 390 is a really popular choice for the 300-6....myself, once i have the money, i'm goin with an offy DP intake, holley 390 4bbl, EFI manifolds, crane 260/272 cam, steel timing gears, DSII ignition system, re-gearing front and rear to 3.73's on either my 3/4 ton or my 1/2 ton, and dropping the engine in there...
I took my 84 out mud boggin last weekend for the first time with the new Holley 2bbl. I was pleasantly surprised at the difference in power! Before when I had the stock 1bbl carb (in 4high 1st gear) I had to slip/feather the clutch until the motor hit it's power band. Even then it would still have a tendency to bog out and sometimes stall. No I just roll up to the bog and stuff my foot in it... and all 4 tires just start pitchin mud left and right! I never would have dreamed my 300 would get up and spin the tires soo easily! It's really quite a feat because I am running 3.08 gears(locked rear) with 31x10.50s. Hopefully next year I'll be running 4.10s with 33x12.50s with a Trac Lok. I think that will be a sweet combo!
Grrrrr..... > Clifford said my intake and headers were on backorder. Now I have to wait who knows how long to get this project started! I guess while I'm waiting, I'll put a new clutch on it and have the flywheel turned. Any recommendations on a clutch kit? (I'll check for a clutch forum, too!)
hey broncr...been a while...how ya been? how's life treatin ya? life here's good...just bought a second truck from a buddy...hella steal on it....83 f-250 4x4 300-6 4 spd...20 bucks...anyway, it's gonna git some goodies, and i'll probably rebuild my 1/2 ton, as i go, too....build both of'em the same, see how they do....good to see ya around agin...take care...
Alright, folks. I've got my Clifford four barrel intake / shorty headers / Holley 390 on my 300! WooHoo! Damn, it sounds good, too! I think I've just about got the carb tuned right. When I get my Magnaflow mufflers in, I'll let ya'll know how she runs. Already sounds like a dream, though!
quick hint:
you can find equal, or better parts, and better service at places other than clifford
almost all the big name parts places carry something for the 300
That's just how it starts. First the 4bbl and headers, but if a little is good then alot must be better. Next thing you know the motor will be rebuilt -different cam, bump in compression, etc. Then you start to wonder how far can you go? That's what happened to me. I started out that way and now my 300 been gone through several times. If one 390 Holley is good then two must be better (it was for me) and I still get 11 mpg. Its a fun ride and most people think its a V-8, but the look on their face is worth a million bucks when I tell them its a 300 and they have to do a double take when they see two 4 bbls under the hood. My truck don't especially like cold weather but it can be driven on a daily basis if need be. Anyway, enjoy your mods and if you have questions, just ask.
