Cps ?

So from what I've searched and read, a new CPS will cure rough idle, and engine stops, right?

One more quick question, how to tell if you got a lemon?

A new CPS will cure rough idle and engine stops if it was the cause of those symptoms.
Typically tho when the CPS goes the truck flat will not start.
You may or may not get a short warning period of of rough or eratic running and stalls but it usually quickly escalates to DEAD TRUCK.

What do you mean "got a lemon"? That implies some fundamental flaw that keeps causing problems so whats happening?

Don't forget the infamous no tach movement with the dead truck. When in doubt get the CPS. If it doesn't fix the problem, at least you have a spare, because these things will go out.

Well, I bought this truck two weeks ago without getting it checked out. But it came with a one-year warranty from the dealer, and then I bought an extended warranty to cover my assets. But I'm concerned because there's all these problems now (rough idle, enginge stopping, hard tranny shifts/misshifts). The truck has only 60,000 miles. (1997F250)

I bought the truck right as they got it in on trade. They needed to service and detail it, before It was given to me. So I'm thinking there might be some other BIG issue with the truck that they didn't tell me because I bought it before they inspected it. Maybe I'm just freaking out too! My reasoning for the "lemon" thing was to find a way to just make sure the overall condition is good. I've never had a ford that has had frequent problems, but this is my first diesel.
Quite honestly I'm kind of freaked out about all the repairs needed on this forum. Oh well, I know I"LL keep up on my maintenance

I do believe you have the wrong impression about the number of repairs needed by PSDs. Remember you are likely to find a disproportinately high number reflected here because of the nature of the forum. For the most part PSDs are very reliable and require few repairs.

Since you appear to be covered by a warranty take it back to the dealer instead of worrying about it. While it's true a rough idle, stalling, and erratic shifting are annoying and should be fixed they aren't necessarily caused by multiple isolated defects but may all be symptoms of a single defect. So instead of "All these problems" you may easily be dealing with a single problem causing various symptoms.

easy, easy, I know strokers are good, that's why I got it. It probably just seems like the repairs are high because I just joined this forum.

The dealer is 3 hours away. Unless I absolutely have to take it there I won't. The extended warranty I can use anywhere. And, I "worry" about it because it's my pride and joy, and don't believe that just giving it to the dealer is always the best bet. That is why I asked you guys. And my question was answered.
