I would be curious as to why it broke. Was it strain from the steering box?

sorry it took me so long to get back to you. it is an 86 f-150 and the frame broke because of the steering box. the tourge with my bigger tires is what broke it i am told. i heard it is a very common thing for these trucks. but that may or maynot be true, i think that the truck was worked hard by the previous owner. i am getting it welded and reinforced at a collision repair shop. it is not a result of an accident, that is what the body guy says. he is the one who told me that they do this. anyway any info or tips would be greatly appreciated. can i swithch the box or alter it to make it not do this?? any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would suppose running large tires over a period of time takes it's toll. If it's a good shop you are taking it to, hopefully they will be able to make it stronger than new. I haven't heard of this being a chronic problem, but I bet a dropped pitman arm would give more strain on the box mount area.
