stopping the beast

Ok well the truck is out of the garage and driven down the dirt road a few times the brakes work but seems to be less pedal than before . It is a 76 f150 4x4 ,i have a dana 60 front out of a 78 f250 with dual piston calipers ,rear is a dana 70 with the big drums 12'' x 3'' i think , the master cylinder and power booster are stock . i was wondering how to get the peddle to feel more like the new trucks
1) would a master cylinder and power booster off of a newer f250/f350 help ?
2) and if so will it bolt up or is there any mods to do or if anyone has done this ?

oh btw right now im running 33'' tires but will be running 44's and the truck has 20'' of suspension lift and air lockers front and back with 5.13 gears
THANKS

You need to get some pics of your truck in your gallery. and you engine. Sounds awesome.

The best way is to get new multiple caliper disc brakes for front and rear that have large discs. You will also want to uprgrade your master cylinder. You can easily modify a newer one. you will probably need some adaptors and such, but itll work. You may have to fab a mount as well.

have you tried bleeding the brakes until all the old fluid is gone, alot of times brake systems will still work with a small amount of air in them, but they wont work as good as they are capable of.......you probably already thought of this, just adding my 3 cents.....

Agree's with SwOKcOFFRoader bleed the old fluid out and you might just need to replace your booster i had to my old went out so i went and bought a used one from a u-pull it place and it works fine now.

4 WHEEL DISC

'NOUGH SAID.
You will however need a different master as the calipers need more push. Possibly a porportioning valve. On your current set up, try a master out of a 250/350. The dual piston probly needs more than the stock single piston calipers.

Get the master cylinder from an F-350, not an F-250. The F350 will be smaller in diameter but about twice as deep. If you get one from a 78/79 F350 it will bolt right up. If not . . . good luck trying to stop those 44's!

Damn, sorry. I MEANT booster and said master cylinder. Yes. You'll want an F350 booster. I don't remember if the F250 MC's will bolt up to them or not but you can get the whole unit, booster and MC for under $200 from Napa.

or you could go with a t-case brake and not have to worry about anything on the wheels. i mean ya they may be illegal and they lock up easy but you won't have any trouble with stopping!

actually i am working on my t-case e-brake right now... sounds pretty easy thanx to jopey for all the extra lil hints

Not unless you switch to rear disc brakes.

the F250HD booster is the same as the F350- they both had dual piston calipers and such..

The whole thing is the way to go, make sure you adjust the pushrod correctly though.

I've got a heavy duty F250 and it's the weaker flatter style booster. Just make sure the booster you end up with is smaller diameter and a lot thicker. You'll see the difference easily. It'll also make clearance for your valve covers a lot easier.

I think ford must of threw random parts at trucks. but yeah, ivan's right, the thick one that isn't as big around..
