How does the height/load sensing proportioning valve work?
I was just browsing the chiltons manual when I saw this diagram that showed the height/load sensing proportioning valve, which is located on the rear axle, and suddenly remembered seeing one on my truck. What does it do, how does it work, how do I know if it's broken?

the more weight you have in the bed, the more rear breaking power. i really dont know how they work. when they go bad, they usually leak where the shaft enters the main body. you have to go to the junkyards to find them. out of 5 ford trucks, years ranging from 1970-1990, i could only find one truck that came equipped with it.
