Im looking at getting a stock 77 f150. It has a 302 with an auto. Will this engine be alright to build up for performance, or would i be better off putting a 5.0 mustang engine in it. I want to keep it carb. , but i wanna make it prettydarn fast, well get up and go.
is this a 4wd or 2wd. the difference between what you have in there and a mustang motor is just a few interals nothing you couldnt add to the motor thats in there. what are you plans with this rig . is it a short bed or long bed?
its a 2wd longbed. I was thinking of something that will get going quick, im not to worried about top speed, just strong horsepower and torque off the line, you know just roostin the tires off and blowing away ricers. I was laso considering a 460 with a 4 or 5 speed behind it. What would you do
the 302 is an alright motor, but you're gonna need to do a LOT of work to it to get the power that you can get already with the 460. Just to give you options, a 347 stroker (stroked 302) can get you to around 450 horsepower with the right equipment. Ive seen one with fuel injection and electronic ignition get upwards of 700 horsepower, which should be plenty for smokin' tires, just expect to have to drop some dollars for parts to make this happen, the 460 is an easier and cheaper choice
your not going to get 700 hp out of a stock 5.0 block though. 450-500 is maxing out the block already.
if a 460 is a hard to come by then a 351w/stroked to 393 would work just as good
oh heck no Kemical, you can't get 700 on a 5.0. This one was stroked and bored, built to the hilt. I'm just using it as a reference for what the motors can do if you really want to spend the money. The 5.0 isn't much of a motor stock, but it has a huge aftermarket following, so with the bucks the potential is there.
