I would wait until 100,000 miles so that your warranty stays intact. Amsoil is not API certified and will void your warranty.

Even after the warranty runs out, I'd still use the recommended oil. There are plenty of absolutely spectacular UOA's on here using regular conventional oil.

Save your money.

If you plan on switching to the XL7500 5W-20, then that would be fine for warranty as the XL7500 line is API certified. Switch to syn anytime you want. Just remember that XL7500 is mostly GrIII basestock and **OPINION** although it is allowed to be called a "synthetic", ethically it shouldn't **OPINION**.

For a much better deal, switch to the new Mobil Clean 5000 or Clean 7500 lines, or use the Motorcraft oil. Either the Clean 5000 or Motorcraft is a steal for what you get.

I'd highly recommend the new 5w-20 Mobil Clean 7500 @ 2.18 per quart vs the groupIII 5 buck a quart Amsoil . Mobil is calling it a syn blend but in my mind it's as much of a synthetic as other group III's with or without some pao in them .

The Mobil is API certified also to protect you while under warranty .Something to think about there as Ford is tightening up on warranty claims .

EDIT: I forgot the Amsoil is API certified . I personally would still choose the Mobil though .

BTW , does this Amsoil 5w-20 meet the new 2005 Ford specs ? It's different from the 2004's 153H you know .

I would wait until the milage/time interval is due for an oil change. Then I would refill with a major brand oil. Major brands supply not only automotive, but farm, fleet, construction, avation and marine markets. They expend a lot of effort on R&D. So why not bennefit from their technology for a very reasonable price?

IMHO, the high priced boutique lube is only intended to exploit people whose love for their vehicles clouds their good sense.

Even if Amsoil were better than MC or Mobil1l, I wouldn't void my warranty using a non-API certified oil.

One thing I've learned about with my Ford's....stick with Motorcraft and Borg Warner parts/lube. If you can get a MC or BW part over another...get it. Solid deal.

wildthing 327,you can put amsoil,mobil1, or any other synthetic in your f150 at 500 miles or at 50,000 miles. synthetic oils work well in motors, trans, and differentials. they cost more but they last longer and work better in cold temps.

Most Amsoil products ARE NOT API certified, for the ones that are, check out this URL:

The topic 5w-20 Amsoil does not meet Ford M2C930-A which that 2005 Ford needs for warranty purposes if going by the book .

If the Dodge Viper and Chevy Corvette come with syn as the factory fill, there must be a reason.

mountravlr, you are correct, there is a reason that these two specific engines require synthetic. Poor engine design. The Vette starves for oil at the front main bearing at startup. The synthetic helps with its cold flow properties. The Viper has problems with cooling at the center cylinder causing coking of the oil. Synthetic helps relieve some of this problem.

Wildthing327, the Amsoil 5w-20 isn't worth the asking price. Its a good oil, but not better than others at a fraction of the cost. It's your wallet and your truck.

FWIW, the local Walmart is blowing out MC 5-20 for $1.50 a qt.

Might be a good time to stock up on some really good oil!
