I just got this hitch and haven't towed with it yet. Is anybody familar with them. coments compaints etc? I did notice it fits a little looser in the receiver than my steel hitch did. It is rated at 9,000# sales guy said the same model was rated at 13,000# last year but it was lowered for liabilty issues.
...that's a lot of leverage waiting to happen at 9000 lbs...
If you had to hit the brakes hard at 35mph pulling 5000 lbs,. you would probably exceed the 9000lb rating. That is why they decreased it from 13000 lbs.
Isn't that a solid shank receiver? How much weight do you plan on towing with it? I am sure you haul all your big weight with the gooseneck right? I bet that receiver is as strong as your week stock hitch...
looks pretty stout to me.. I have an 11" drop steel hitch, rated at 5,000 lbs. I have towed an 18' flatbed, 16 or so foot stock trailer, and a 23 foot ranger bay boat with no problems thus far. Remember those hitches are rated much lower than they actually can hold, i'd be more worried about your bumper or actual reciever before the hitch itself Looks nice though, how much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking.. and from who? One more.. how much drop is it? thanks.
It is a solid shank and seems to be pretty stout. Just looking at it it seems to be stronger than the OEM hitch. All of my heavy trailers are goosenecks and I generally only pull my boxed in motorcycle trailer, small boat trailer and utiliy trailers with the rec hitch. It is a 10" drop and I got it off ebay for 69.99 and the guy through in a locking pin because he was slow shipping out. I searched the internet and that was the best price I found on it. I did like the looks though, nice lines, no paint, no rust and its a lot lighter to lug around than the stainless steel hitches. Just hope the leverage from the length does damage any thing.
For you guys worring about stopping with a 9000lb trailer, what kind of trailer are we talking about? I would think a trailer that heavy, or even half that weight would have brakes on it, no? I could be wrong but every trailer I've pulled that's that heavy has always had brakes on it. Maybe I've been spoiled... ha ha.
jcgswp - That thing looks pretty stout. Like 99 said, I think the limitations would be the part with the lower rating, in this case the ball.
