Anyone familiar with these trucks that had the car bolt pattern? 5-4 1/2. A guy I work with has a 82 F100 step side it had one and recently went out, It was difficult to loacate another, his was a 2.75 open diff w/ 31 spline axles, We finally found another for 100$ it was a 2.47 open, not sure on the axle size.

I'm getting TOO dang familiar with them.

The only way to put a real brake rotor on the front, is to swap out the steering knuckle, which has the brake caliper mount on it. The reason is that the brake rotor for a 5 on 5 1/2 is larger than the caliper mount accepts - they ain't no room for it.

The point of doing this mod though, is to get rid of an extremely limited application bolt circle and open up the truck to a wide selection of rims that can be found most anywhere.

The rear is a matter of finding a ratio you like, and ditching the old one in the nearest litter receptacle!

Nine inch rears are plentiful in the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern, and there's a reason for it.
They're stronger.

I wouldn't mess around anymore with the bad guess ford made at the start of the 80's. Kit it over, and have a real truck out of the process. It beats looking for "Hen's Teeth"...

Greywolf, just curious, but, what is the GVWR of your truck? My 82 F100 FlareSide is a 4750# rated truck, and AFAIK, it came from the factory with the 5 on 5.5 pattern. It was 300/SROD(3 speed/OD) 2.75 geared 9" equipped from the factory. My boss has a 1980 F100 LWB, it's rated at 4700# GVW, and, it too has the standard truck pattern(and non-adjustable kingpin front end), and, I know that's the way it came.... It just rolled up 60,000 and I did it's first brake job ever....
