94 ranger splash clutch problem

I have a '94 ranger 5 speed manual trans. My problem started with 1st poping out of gear. Then the clutch started to whine slightly and after a couple of days my clutch was gone all together. I checked the fluid and it was low so I filled it up, pumped the clutch, and had to do this many times. I have used almost a whole container of fluid, with no visible leaks, and it still needs more. I can not find any way to bleed the air out if there is any. Can anyone give me any ideas on what my problem is or tips.

Thanks a bunch

IT had to go somewhere. The system doesn't take much fluid. The bleed shoul be on the drivers side under the car. If ity is like my 96, the bleed stick out of the bellhousing at or near where the hydraulic line enters the belhousing. FYI, for whatever reason (at least on my daughter's 96) the bleed point is not at the lowest point in the system which makes it very difficult to bleed. I suspect your slave cylinder went south. Do you have any clutch pedal pressure/resistance?

if it is popping out of gear then the tranny is in need of a rebuild.

Where could it go if it is not going on the ground? As far as a bleeder I can not find it. My trany is one piece so there is no bellhousing per say. I will look again. At times I do have some pressure on the clutch. When it has fluid that is.

look above where the fluid line enters the bellhousing on the l.h. side of tranny. there migt be a small rubber cover over it, but the bleeder should be there. it 8mm. i welded a 1/4 drive 8 mm socket to a allen wrench to use as a tool. not much room under there. not much fun either. i would guess your slave might be leaking, that means time to drop trans, might have to anyhow if your popping out of gear, having 4wd adds to the "fun-factor" do a search here and in the transmission fourum, theres alot to read on this.

As mentioned, it's probably a leaky slave, but check for a leak under the dash where the clutch rod goes thru the firewall.

1994 ranger clutch problems

Howdy to all! I have a 1994 ford ranger that i have installed NEW flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, slave cylinder w/t-o bearing and clutch master cylinder. When trying to "bleed" the system i never could get the master cykinder to build any pressure. After running two pints of brake fluid thru the master cylinder and slave cylinder , i decided that maybe the master cylinder was possibly bad so i exchanged for another new one ,,but still no pressure. I have tried hooking a hose to the slave cylinder bleed port and run hose to a bottle of fluid with end of hose in liquid and also unbolting the master cylinder from firewall and inverting it to maybe purge it of air and still no go. Can somebody tell me if there is a special procedure for bleeding this system? I need HELP! thanks desert joe

Thumbs up MANY,MANY,MANY thanks to Hank85713!!!!!!!!!

Great Day in the Morning! After fighting the hydraulic clutch problem on my 94 Ranger for 4 1/2 days, I cannot believe how easy it finally was to bleed the system once you do the proper procedure. Hank85713's suggestion to remove the circlip on the pushrod end of the master cylinder and purge the trapped air did the trick for me. What i found to be hard to believe is that all the time I was fighting this problem, I visited with several mechanics and even service managers at 2 different Ford dealerships and they all agreed that these systems are flat rate killers! Their best approach was to bleed and bleed and bleed, sometimes for 2 to 3 hours! then let it set and do it all over again. One guy suggested that pulling a vacuum on the system and then introducing the fluid might work.?? Anyway, I am so tickled that this forum was able to furnish the solution, I am considering writing an article incorporating all the suggestions from the many contributors of this forum and see if FTE will accept it for future inquiries. OOPS OOPS OOPS, I got so carried away, i almost forgot,, can anybody tell me why my clutch now starts to engage almost right off the floor? Can this be adjusted to where the engagement starts a little higher up? Thanks every body!! Desert joe
