i just got a new carb, and it has the linkage on the carb, but im havning a hard time adjusting the adjustment screw to where i want the linkage to kick-down. could i keep the linkage disconnected, and just downshift when i need to? it has a C-6 tranny, im pretty sure. its a 1980 Ford F350 with a 460 out of another truck. on the column, it reads P-R-N-D-2-1. if i manually downshift, will it go to 3rd gear, or down to 2nd?
if the new carb is a holley..they sell a little kickdown tension spring kit that goes with ford auto trannys..I had to go back to the parts store and get one. sounds like you may already have this setup is there is a screw to adjust...my carb came without the kickdown adjustmentment screw..it was part of the kit.
i have the motorcraft carb. if i manually downshift the tranny, then it wont go down into 3rd, it will go all the way down to 2nd. so i guess i have to put the kickdown linkage on it, huh?
ok, for some reason i thought it had 4 forward gears. im an idiot. do you know where i can get a rebuilt motorcraft carb for pretty cheap? mine is shot.
Cant you get a rebuild kit for what you have there? I rebuilt a 2bbl Holley--for a Ford-- in about an hour and a half. I just laid everything out IN ORDER as I took it off, and reassembled it after I squirted carb cleaner thru all the passages that I opened up as I removed pieces. I closed and opened the idle adjustmens 1 1/4 turns to start the truck, which started in less than 2 seconds, btw.
I LOVE being able to work on my vehicles! I cant imagine being someone that has to go to a mechanic for the simplest repairs, and paying wild rates to git 'er done.
i have been quoted about $300 to rebuild it, but i think im better off buying a remanufactured carb. the rebuilding shop said that they would smog the carb also. if i buy a rebuilt carb, can i take it to a shop to get smogged before i mount it and get my truck smogged?
