Man I want to replace my front and rear dome light but can't seem to get the covers off. I am afraid I am going to damage the plastic hsg. Anybody replaced these? I asked Ford and they mentioned a dome light hsg tool.....okay.......

Exclamation dome lights

I tried this on mine a few weeks ago because I wanted to change the color from white to red. (still looking for the red bulbs) The housings are merely clipped on. pull straight down evenly toward the floor and they should "pop" right off for you. I cheated a bit, I used a small 90 degree pointed screwdriver type pulling tool to get in between the liner and the housing right in the center. these great little tools I picked up at Walmart for around $5 for a set of 3, they are made by Stanley and the set includes a straight poker type, a 90 degree type, and a hook type.

Smile Thanks!

Yeah I wanted to change to blue. Thanks for the reply. I've tried 3 different forums before I got an answer. You are a gentleman and a scholar sir and your response is greatly appreciated.

How would you change the 2 lights up in the front, that are built into the overhead console?

Just go to a craft, lighting, or sound equipment store and get "gels". These are used for coloring stage lighting, and work great. No mess, no paint, and they don't shrink under heat.

A pack of 10 cost .99cents

These are 916 bulbs, I have had the front cover off. Its just like the back dome light assembly. Now If I can just find the red bulbs.

Handyman, I could paint them but I rather prefer keeping the lenses clear and just get red bulbs. (personal preference). I havent been sure of the filters, i havent seen them in action yet. I might condifder going that route. But it does seem that we think alike I dont want to be a target either, I like the red lighting for the interior, just enough to read but not distract others, just like on the truck!! Be safe brotha!

Thanks!

bulb info

Thanks for the info ! I also want to get at those dome lights too, I want to change them all out to red. 912's............I wonder if those have the same wattage as the 906's do?

I got my dome light bulbs out and found that they are Sylvania 578. I need to find a red 578. No luck so far. The 578 is 1.72mm in length and 10.5mm in diameter. I have checked alot of the sites and they dont have one that long that would fit the clips on each end. I may end up having to but the filters after all.

Bulb Info

I think you maybe worrying a little too much about wattage and bulb numbers.
I just took the original bulbs into the store and "eyeballed" the sizes and made sure the ones I bought were marked dome. If the wattage is less or more it will not hurt the circuit.
